About this work
Silver medal. Obverse: at the instruction of Philip II, depicted as a spectator with crown and scepter, a kneeling Spanish soldier binds the feet of a seated woman, representing the Netherlands; in the background the Dutch lion comes to the aid within an inscription. Reverse: a man, representing William of Orange, and a woman with a liberty cap, representing the Netherlands; between them: a lying Dutch lion and broken chains within an inscription.
