About this work

The Great Marble Buddha stands in the famous Kyauktawgyi Temple in Mandalay, Myanmar. The statue itself is called Maha Thetkya Mayazein. The Buddha's right hand is in the bhūmisparśa mudrā (derived from the Sanskrit bhūmi, Mother Earth, and sparśa, touch), and the left hand in the dhyāna mudrā. Many Buddha statues in Myanmar have this posture. This photo is part of an album.
