About this work
Pompeii, Casa del Fauno. This 'House of the Faun' derives its name from the bronze faun that stood in the water basin in the foreground and is missing here (see empty pedestal in the foreground). It is one of the oldest houses in Pompeii, from the 5th century BC, where also the famous Alexander mosaics with the Battle of Issus were placed (now in the Museo Nazionale in Naples).
