About this work

View of the Band-e Qaisar bridge ["Pul-i-Kaisar"] over the Karun River, Shûshtar, Iran. When the Sassanian Shah Shapur I (reign 240 or 242–272 AD) defeated the Roman Emperor Valerian I in 260 AD in the Roman-Persian Battle of Edessa/Karrhei, he had Roman prisoners of war build this bridge.
