About this work
Horatio Ross photographed game he and his friends had shot. Even at an advanced age he was one of the finest shots in all of Scotland. Unlike in drawings and paintings, the deer in this photograph looks somewhat odd and distorted. Hence, this shot is a good example of how photography introduced a different, unromanticized way of depicting reality.
