About this work

The European party is being transported by palanquin carried by Chinese bearers, using both open and closed palanquins, presumably in the hills of Hong Kong. Part of the photo album of Dolph Kessler with photographs he took during his stay in England and on a world tour he undertook as secretary of Henri Deterding (director of the Royal Oil Company) to the Dutch East Indies, Japan, China and the United States, between 1906 and 1908.
