About this work

The International Exhibition held in London in 1862 drew more than six million visitors in a six-month period. Among the 28,000 individuals and firms promoting their products there was Benjamin Spackman. He had learned how to take photographs a few years earlier and recorded the construction of the South Kensington Museum. Included in the photographs he displayed were ones he had taken of the construction of the vast exhibition building.
