About this work
Roelse practiced the curious occupation of daguerreotypist in Middelburg, in the Province of Zeeland. He did so in the (scanty) hours of daylight in the Netherlands. Ten-year-old Henriëtte smiles faintly at the man behind the camera. Later her earrings were coloured in with gold paint and the studio's tablecloth prop with blue paint.
