About this work

Photo album in brown leather binding with brass fittings and locks. The spine has been repaired with black linen. The endpapers are made of changeant paper. The album contains fifteen thick cardboard leaves with gold-gilt edges and a total of thirty cabinet photographs in passe-partouts. With the exception of two, all prints have a caption above and/or below the passe-partout. Furthermore, the majority of the cabinet photographs have an inscription on the reverse side (often in two different handwritings) that largely corresponds to the text on the passe-partout. The album depicts Amsterdam in the third quarter of the nineteenth century: streets, squares, canals and buildings, as well as four panoramas of the city.
