Photo album with views of streets, squares and canals in Amsterdam and of the 25th anniversary of the reign of King William III in 1874

Photo album in red leather binding with a brass lock. The front and back covers are decorated with a coat of arms and frames in relief. The endpapers are made of changeant paper. The album contains twenty-four thick cardboard leaves with gold-gilt edges and a total of forty-eight cabinet photographs in passe-partouts. Of these, thirty-seven have a caption above and/or below the passe-partout. Furthermore, the majority of the cabinet photographs have an inscription on the reverse side (often in two different handwritings) that largely corresponds to the text on the passe-partout. The album depicts Amsterdam in the third quarter of the nineteenth century: streets, squares, canals and buildings. It also features decorations and gates erected in the capital to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the reign of King Willem III in 1874.
