About this work

Photo album in black half-leather binding. The endpapers have a brown and gold-colored flower and leaf motif. The album contains 34 leaves with 347 photographs. These are images made by a French amateur photographer, presumably from a wealthy family. He/she photographed a wide range of subjects in France: a cavalry barracks, family members, playing children, excursions, hunting parties, landscapes, cities, villages, sailing trips, ice skaters, cyclists, amateur actors etc.. The photographer also experimented with his camera, as evidenced by the montage photographs made from two negatives and the recurring images of a moving, jumping man. The distillery Delizy & Doistau Fils, based in Pantin (now Paris), appears frequently. The unknown photographer may possibly be connected with this firm.
