About this work
A steam locomotive with a tender for water and fuel and a wagon stands on a brick plinth. Carved in stone below is the text: 'S.&D.R. No. 1. 1825.' This refers to the Locomotion No. 1, the first locomotive to run on the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S.&D.R.) and built by George Stephenson (1781-1848). Part of a Travel Album of European Cities, probably Swedish.
