Around 1918, Het Groot Toneel, under the direction of Charles Gilhuys, performed the play Othello by William Shakespeare, with Albert van Dalsum in the lead role as Othello and Marie (Rie) Gilhuys-Sasbach as Othello's wife Desdemona.
