About this work
The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture. Shah Jahan had the tomb built in the 17th century as a final resting place for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. While today the area around the monument is open, Bourne's photograph shows how dense it was in the 19th century.
