Street view in Kolkata

Bourne here photographed Old Court Street, now known as Binoy Badal Dinesh Bag Street in Kolkata (then Calcutta). In the right background is the Writers' Building from 1777, recognizable by its classicist facade with columns. It was the headquarters for the writers of the British East India Company. Bourne was thus photographing an important workplace for the British in India.
