About this work
In an Italian landscape lies on the left between the remains of a classical temple an inn. In front of it sit and stand various figures and donkeys. In the middle behind a small hill Joseph walks with a basket on his shoulder in front of the donkey, which carries Mary with child. In the background classical ruins, including the three columns of the temple of Castor and Pollux on the Forum Romanum in Rome.
