About this work

The Venetian City Maiden sits on an island with a scepter and a lion beside her. In her left hand she holds the ring of the marriage between Venice and the Adriatic Sea. The representation is enclosed in an oval with the text: ubique merito potens. In the corners sit women with shields bearing the names of the cities Padua, Verona, Bergamo and Brescia.
