About this work

Allegory on the decline of appreciation for the arts and sciences. A herd of donkeys destroys the attributes of the liberal arts in an art room. A donkey tears a drawing in half with its mouth. Another bites a recorder, a third tramples a globe. In the foreground right, the personifications of the liberal arts and a poet wash a donkey's ears. From the large entrance door, two winged donkeys fly into the room.
