About this work

In the foreground the saint Stephen, riding on an elephant. He prays to God in heaven. In his hands a cross with a banner. On the banner the personification of Mercy. Behind Stephen two men who stone him. In the background the temple of Jerusalem. The print has a Latin inscription of six lines and is part of an eight-part series on the Triumph of Patience.
