About this work

Bust portrait of Cornelis Jansz. Speelman, Governor-General of India. He wears armor, an embroidered cravat and a chain. At the bottom a medallion with a statue of Cornelis Speelman, two prisoners and a line in Latin. The portrait is set in a broken oval frame with laurel leaves in the corners. In the margin the coat of arms of the sitter and a three-line inscription in Dutch.
