About this work

Portrait of Petrus Mercier, Master-General of the Order of the Trinitarians. Around the oval, in which his name and function are depicted, stand the symbols of the Evangelists: a winged eagle, a winged man, a winged lion and a winged ox. Above the portrait a hand showing the keys of Peter, pointing towards Mercier. Next to it two broken chains. Below the portrait a text in Latin describing Mercier's significance for the mendicant order.
