About this work
Satirical print on the disintegration of the Confederation of the Rhine (a confederation of vassal states of the First French Empire) after the defeat of the French troops in the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. Crowns, symbols of the Confederation of the Rhine, are gnawed by rats. A torn banner of the Confederation of the Rhine lies next to a dead bird and a bag of coins. With text 'Men leerd met schade en schande'.
