About this work

In a room, a mother sits on a chair with a pair of scissors in her hand. A sewing basket stands on the floor beside her. She gives one of the two children standing at her knee a slice of bread. The girl holds her hands folded in prayer. The second child holds a slice of bread. Both have a slate hanging from their arm. A small dog sits on the floor in a begging posture. Behind them stands the father with the eldest son at a table, on which various books and an inkwell. Through the window, the rising sun and Aurora, the sister of the sun god, can be seen.
