About this work

In a room sits a richly dressed lawyer at the fireplace at a writing desk, before which stands a gesturing man with a hat. Beside the man stands a boy who looks in the direction of the viewer and has a ham and sausage with him. The man possibly asks advice from the lawyer, who makes it clear to the man with a hand gesture that advice costs money. In the background stands a bookcase with two busts on it and behind a railing the silhouette of a figure at a writing desk is visible. The curtains of the bookcase are worked with vertical lines, which are not present in the previous state.
