About this work
On the left a young couple stands next to a well-dressed lady, the personification of Wealth. On the right the same couple is pulled away by a woman in rags, the personification of Poverty. The clothing of the couple also begins to become less presentable. The skirt and sleeves of the woman are torn. Yet the couple still moves towards Wealth and tries to flee from Poverty.
