About this work

Two scenes on one plate. Above: Two imprisoned Christians are stretched on a rack by order of a Roman emperor with the help of ropes and a windlass; in the background another Christian is tortured on a screw bench. Below: Some imprisoned Christians are tortured to death by Roman soldiers. They are tied to a rotating wheel, which then rolls over a plate with nails. In the background other torture practices such as breaking on the wheel.
