About this work
Dutchmen are captured in Brazil by the local population, murdered and eaten. In the foreground a prisoner is stripped of his clothes by two men. To the right of this another man hacks the limbs of the prisoners with an axe. To the left in front two men start a fire. This is probably about the Tupi, a Brazilian people often associated with cannibalism.
