The Blind Shepherds

Landscape in which allegorical figures and pictorial elements together form a rebus. On the left, a fireplace with the year 1579, next to it two blind shepherds, in the sky God the Father with the tablets of the law. In the center, two bears, a glove on a broken door, a fool who is a father, and on the right two wolves shearing sheep. In the background, the population is terrorized. The print is an attack on the inability of the government of the country to protect its inhabitants. In the inscription, the solution of the rebus in three verses of two lines each in Dutch, French and German.
