About this work
On the left a young soldier who looks proudly at his uniform and weapon. Next to him walks a young woman, who carries a small dog in a basket. The woman is probably a camp follower, a woman who did the washing and cooking for a military unit and traveled with the soldiers. In the background the army is seen marching into war. With a Latin inscription by Theodor Schrevelius and a Dutch verse.
