About this work
Allegorical representation in a cartouche on the occasion of a marriage. The couple holds each other's right hand, while Hymen and Amor hold two torches together. The couple is surrounded by personifications of various virtues such as Faith, Virtue, Chastity, Sweetness, Love, Temperance and Prudence. A putto chases discord in the form of two snakes. In the middle below on the basement the motto: Coëunt in Foedera Dextrae. On the left ships at sea and on the right the river gods of the Amstel and IJ. Print on the occasion of the marriage of Jacob Alewijn Ghijzen and Perina Vorsterman in 1719 in Amsterdam.
