About this work

Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter is mortally wounded during the naval battle off Agosta on 22 April 1676, between a combined Dutch-Spanish fleet under Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter and a French fleet under Abraham Duquesne. In the heat of the battle, De Ruyter is wrapped in a sheet by his crew and carried to his cabin.
