Amerigo Vespucci sets foot on shore in America. In his left hand an astrolabe, in his right a banner with the Southern Cross constellation. The personification of America, a naked woman with feather headdress, climbs out of her hammock to greet him. In the background the alleged cannibalistic customs of the local population, possibly Tupinamba, and some native animals are depicted. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a nineteen-part series on new inventions and discoveries.
