About this work

Christ falls, despite the help of Simon of Cyrene, while carrying his cross to Golgotha. A Roman soldier urges him to get up. Veronica offers to wipe the sweat from his face with a cloth. In the background, his mother Mary collapses. The scene is framed in an ornamental border with animals, birds, and fruits.
