About this work
Beginning of the novel 'The House Lauernesse' by A. L.G. Bosboom-Toussaint. Depicted is the Protestant German Paul van Mansveld, who comes to the Netherlands to preach the Reformation. He is mocked by drinking monks gambling in an inn. In the doorway stands the vicar of Utrecht. He takes Van Mansveld to the House Lauernesse and the maiden Ottelijne.
