About this work

Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter is mortally wounded during the sea battle at Agosta on April 22, 1676, between a combined Dutch-Spanish fleet under De Ruyter and a French fleet under Abraham Duquesne. In the heat of the battle, De Ruyter is wrapped in a sheet by his crew and carried to his cabin. Plate no. 1 from the "Album der Nederl. Schilders".
