About this work

David is received by Saul in the army camp, where he tells him that he wishes to fight Goliath. David is incorrectly depicted in the foreground partially in armor, as he refused the equipment. The soldier behind him puts a helmet on his head. In the margin, a one-line Latin caption from 1 Samuel (incorrectly designated as 1 Kings on the print).
