About this work

Abraham raises his knife to sacrifice his son Isaac, but an angel stops him. On the right a ram is caught in the bushes, which will be sacrificed in Isaac's place. On the right in the landscape Abraham and Isaac are on their way to the place of sacrifice, having left the donkey and servants behind. Below the image a Latin reference to the Biblical text in Genesis 22.
