About this work

Landscape with castle. Argus rests on a stone while his cows graze nearby. Mercury plays on his shepherd's flute, the music lulls the shepherd Argus to sleep. Later Mercury would kill Argus to free Io, the beloved of Jupiter transformed into a cow. Print from a series of 13 landscapes with biblical and mythological scenes.
