About this work

The Frisian poet Gysbert Japicx teaching in a schoolroom, around the year 1650. He sits diagonally at his lectern on a raised platform, looking at a boy and a girl who are approaching him with a notebook in hand. Other children in the classroom are watching. Part of the group of steel engravings after the paintings of the Historical Gallery of the Society Arti et Amicitiae.
