About this work
This print illustrates a line from the Book of Proverbs in the Hebrew Bible: ‘Because a prostitute is a deep pit, and the adulterous woman a narrow well’. This noble gentleman is about to fall into the trap, lured by the elderly woman, possibly the procuress, to this prostitute’s bed.
