About this work

The Jesuit Aloysius Gonzaga sits kneeling, with raised hands, before an altar on which stands a flowering crucifix. At his feet lies a crown upside down on the ground. From heaven angels descend on clouds, one of them with a laurel wreath and lily in his hands. In the margin a six-line inscription in two columns in Latin.
