About this work

The portrait is a detail of the painting in the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem by Jan van Scorel. It concerns: Portraits of twelve members of the Haarlem Brotherhood of Jerusalem. One of the figures is a self-portrait by Scorel. It was painted between 1528 and 1530. The sitter wears a light robe with a dark collar and a palm branch against his right shoulder.
