About this work

Landscape with a monument built from cannons, featuring the portrait of Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Prince of Wahlstatt. This Prussian general led his army against Napoleon Bonaparte in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. An angel points to a frame with the birth and death dates of the portrait subject, held by a child with a scythe. In the margin an inscription in Dutch.
