About this work
A child calms or tames a lion and bird of prey. They sit on top of a shield with a verse in Latin. The shield is richly ornamented with scrollwork, two cherubim and dolphins. According to the verse this child shows by taming the animals that man has leadership over the animal kingdom by God.
