About this work

Men and horses are in front of St. Peter's Basilica busy erecting the Vatican Obelisk (in 1586) on St. Peter's Square. Bottom left an explanatory list with numbers and letters and the portrait of Domenico Fontana, the architect who supervised the entire relocation and erection of the obelisk. Representation framed in an ornate frame.
