About this work

Maria Leszczyńska, Queen of France, lies in the lying-in bed after giving birth to her twin daughters, Marie Louise Elisabeth and Henriette Anne. On the left, a lady-in-waiting sits with one of the children on her lap. Her husband, Louis XV, leans over her. Some courtiers visit her. Bottom left, a three-line text in Dutch with an explanation of the scene, and right, a comparable explanation in Latin.
