About this work
A naked winged woman sits enthroned on a pedestal and is handed two shields with the initials of lovers by two cupids. She ties the ropes of the shields together as a symbol of their marriage. Marital fidelity and love are expressed by two turtle doves, two burning hearts and a shield with two clasping hands. According to the inscription, this medal was made on the occasion of the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Jan de Barij and Jeanne Raguet, celebrated in Amsterdam on 13 November 1732.
