About this work

Christ in debate with the Pharisees. Behind him stand his disciples. One of the Pharisees shows him a coin and asks Christ if it is permissible to pay taxes to the emperor. Christ points upward and says: Give to the emperor what is the emperor's, and to God what is God's. Below the image, the title in Latin, four four-line verses in Dutch, and a reference to the biblical text in Matthew 22:15.
