Allegorical representation made for the marriage of William Sterling and Johanna Maria Van Rijckevorsel in Rotterdam on 19 August 1744. The loving couple walks towards the god of marriage, Hymen. He stands at an altar and points to the sky, where a putto scatters flowers. On the clouds sits Juno, accompanied by Venus. In the foreground, putti decorate a herm of Mercury with garlands. To the left, a river god and a nymph.
