About this work
On the left sits the personification of the world on her throne. She wears a crown and holds a scepter and map book, on her lap a cornucopia. Around her personifications of the four continents: Asia with turban, Africa with slave collar and ivory, America with feather headdress and Europe on the bull. On the right a female personification of cartography with Mars and Apollo. Above them Atlas with the celestial vault on the mountain range named after him, Helios and a zodiac. In the foreground river gods and tritons.
